Ingot preparation

The technological process includes the main processes such as batching, smelting, casting, soaking, etc., forming an ingot with a certain chemical composition and external dimensions. The prepared raw materials are smelted in a gas furnace or an electric furnace. After smelting, the melt passes through a static furnace, launder, flow plate, and filter until it reaches the crystallizer, and then is water-cooled to form an ingot of a certain shape. In order to ensure a smooth and clean surface of the ingot, magnetic casting or hot top casting is used for multi-mold (multi-mold) casting. The soaking of the ingot is to homogenize the metallographic structure in the as-cast state and dissolve the main strengthening phase. Soaking is carried out in a soaking furnace. Soaking improves the plasticity of the ingot, which is beneficial to increase the extrusion speed, prolong the life of the extrusion die, and improve the surface quality of the extruded profile.
